Spectrum, the Home Office LGBT staff support network, is running a campaign to raise the visibility of LGBT women in the Home Office as well as show case role models.

A recent Spectrum survey of LGBT staff in the Home Office identified that there was still a lack of LGBT role models in the workplace. Promoting LGBT visibility is an important aspect of creating inclusive workplaces.

The ‘Proud Women of the Home Office’ campaign aims to increase the visibility of LGBT women in the Home Office. Led by Spectrum’s Lesbian/Gay women’s officer, a number of posters were created with accompanying quotes featuring staff from a range of directorates and grades in the Home Office.

The women featured in the campaign are a mix of Spectrum committee members, LGBT senior Civil Service Champions and Spectrum members. These posters showcase the diversity of LGBT women in the Home Office and will hopefully increase representation of women in Spectrum’s network committee.

Feedback so far has been positive. One member of staff has commented on how the poster campaign made them feel “even more proud to work for the Home Office…and it is a place where diversity is really valued.”

Through visibility, Spectrum hopes to encourage inclusive workplaces and create environments where people feel safe to be open, be themselves and act as role models.
