Public Health England (PHE) was asked to attend the London Assembly Health Committee Review on LGBT Mental Health Issues to give an overview of the evidence and reflect on PHE’s learning from our wider work on LGBT health inequalities.

The London Assembly Health Committee is undertaking a review of mental health issues in London. As part of this review they held a specific event to hear about the evidence base related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities.

The meeting heard from a range of LGBT community organisations including ClinicQ, Metro, MINDOut and was attended by several members of the Committee, including the leader of Camden Council who chairs the mental health review group.

Public Health England (PHE) was asked to attend the meeting to give an overview of the evidence and reflect on our learning from our wider work on LGBT health inequalities, Dr Justin Varney, National lead for Adult Health and Wellbeing was asked by our London Centre to attend on PHE’s behalf, as the national topic lead for PHE on LGBT health inequalities and one of the PHERA executive.
