CSRA attended this year’s Nottinghamshire Pride.
Eight serving and retired civil servants met in a very hot and gloriously sunny Nottingham city centre to march under the CSRA banner and take part in a day of celebration, education, visibility and just general fun!
This year’s pride event took place in the city – centred around the Lace Market area and Nottingham’s gay “village” – a welcome change from the usual event on The Arboretum. This meant more of our city residents and the day’s shoppers could enter into the celebration and enjoy the carnival atmosphere of the event.
Nottinghamshire Pride saw the city completely taken over for the day with colour splashed around every corner of the Lace Market and a hum of excitement in the air.
We were among the thousands who marched through the city guided by a Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service engine. Passers by and onlookers smiled and were dragged into the parade, which lasted until 12pm when a host of live music and activities kicked off.
Once we had started on the pride march we were joined for some of the way by other civil servants who were happy to march under our banner – so all in all we had folks from DWP (Tribunals Service and JobcentrePlus), HMRC and MoJ.
Nottinghamshire Pride saw the city completely taken over for the day (even the City Council flew the Rainbow flag from the main flagpole on the Council House) with colour and festive sounds splashed around every corner of the Lace Market and a hum of excitement in the air. At the conclusion of the march in Lace Market Square we then joined in the rest of the celebrations on streets.
CSRA members will be attending Pride Cymru (16th August) and Manchester Pride (23rd August) next month, and all civil servants are welcome to join us.
