CSRA took part in an event for International Women’s Day, hosted by the Department for Health and Ministry of Defence.
Last week the Department for Health and Ministry of Defence hosted a cross-government event for International Women’s Day (IWD), focusing on the theme “Inspiring Change”. The aim of the day was for us all to consider what motivates us and to consider our aspirations for sustainable and lasting change across all aspects of our lives.
The day was structured to allow for learning, networking and sharing. It opened with an exhibition with representatives from Change for Life, Civil Service Learning, Civil Service Race Forum and the Civil Service Rainbow Alliance, who supplied material for delegates about its work, amongst others.
Participants then heard from a range of inspirational and empowering women both internal and non-Civil Service on their personal drivers and how they have benefited from role modelling and mentoring in tough environments.
There was a fantastic programme of speakers including Sir Bob Kerslake (Head of the Civil Service), Lin Homer (Chief Executive, HMRC), Una O’Brien (Permanent Secretary, Department of Health), Helena Morrissey (CBE, CEO Newton, Founder 30% Club and Chair of the Opportunity Now Advisory Board), and Ruth Owen (Director General Personal Tax at HMRC).
The cross-Whitehall International Women’s Day was a great opportunity for us to examine how we can all contribute to making a difference in our careers. We celebrated progress and highlighted the importance of taking positive action and making changes now.
